• Important notes: Riddle me this... what's rarer than a burst, has a book-matched flamed maple top (underneath its goldtop finish), weighs in at just over 8.0LB (featherweight, that's not a typo), and is cleaner than a custom shop VOSguitar? That's right; the answer is this beautiful, 100% original, 1956 Les Paul Standard Goldtop. It's one of the last Les Paul Standards with the P-90s and ABR bridge and what makes it even rarer is that it comes stock with burst-style bumble-bee capacitors (almost all earlier 56' models came with the paper ones instead). The guitar is ridiculously clean and does not have any checking as its lived its entire life in the same indoor environment, being played only once at a high school gig in the late 1970's by the original owner's son. But of all its rare features, what makes this guitar most special is it's French Canadian story. Bought brand new around Christmas-time 1956 (almost 70 years ago) in Quebec City for $280 CAD with the case for $50 CAD and a GA-40 amp for $250 CAD (please see photos of the receipt written on the back of the hangtag). Yes, that matching GA-40 amp will be listed soon as well once serviced. The guitar has remained with the same family for multiple generations until we were honored with the opportunity to add it to our shop here in Montreal.
